Steps to Install the LEGO Mindstorm NXT and leJOS NXJ Software

Install the LEGO Mindstorm software by inserting the CD and following the on-screen instructions.

Download and install the leJOS package: visit http://lejos.sourceforge.net/nxj-downloads.php, follow the Win32 leJOS NXJ link, select the latest version zip file (0.6.0beta (5/5/08)). Unpack it and place the resulting lejos_nxj folder into C:\Program Files.

Turn on the LEGO robot and plug it in via the USB cable and allow Windows to recognize it.

Download the LibUSB filter: visit http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net, follow “Downloads” link in left column, click on download link to sourceforge, click on libusb-win32-releases, and download the latest version of the filter .exe file (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.1.exe). (0.1.12.1 (3/20/07))

Install the LibUSB filter: Make sure the robot is (still) on and connected via the USB cable. Run the libusb-win32-filter-bin executable downloaded in the previous step.

Add system variable NXJ_HOME with the value of the directory into which lejos_nxj was installed (C:\Program Files\lejos_nxj).

Add system variable JAVA_HOME with the value of the directory that contains the system JDK (e.g., C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_02).

Append ;%NXJ_HOME%\bin;%JAVA_HOME%\bin to the end of the Path system variable.
